Pablo Antinao-Alvarez graduated with honors in social work and shortly thereafter, discovered his true passion was in wine and food. He began his career in the restaurant business working at Hotel Del Lago, a Five-Star hotel/restaurant in Chile, Pablo’s native country. Soon-after, Pablo began managing bars and teaching private bar-tending classes. His interest in food, wine, and the connection they have to the land was inspired by living on a biodynamic farm in Southern Chile. His interest in world cuisine and culture lead him to travels not only in the wine regions of Chile, but also to Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and eventually to the United States in 2004. Pablo settled in California.
Pablo is a certified wine professional from the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, California. He deepened his wine, and culinary knowledge with more travels to France and Spain. In 2008, Pablo obtained his certification as a Sommelier from the Spanish Academy of Sommeliers, in Barcelona, Spain.
Pablo has been working in different faces of the wine industry, sales marketing and wine education. In 2016 Pablo opened Bakai Wine Bar + Tapas in Monterey with two other partners. Lastly, Pablo is the director and creator of Pablo Antinao Wine School and author of TASTE; a comprehensive wine guide for the modern wine drinker, aimed to enhance understanding of the fundamentals of wine production, wine making, wine tasting, wine and food pairing, and much more!
